Richard Morris "Red" Williams
Richard Morris "Red" Williams, 92, of Roanoke Rapids, died Sunday, November 29, 2009.
Mr. Williams was born in Lunenburg County, VA, the son of the late Richard Edward Williams and Minnie Cabiness Williams. He served his country during WWII and was awarded the Bronze Star medal. "Red", as he was known to many, never met a stranger. He owned and operated R. M. Williams Moving Service for a number of years. After his retirement, he enjoyed going to rest homes on Sundays, bringing fruit for the patients. He also loved to hunt and fish. Most of the time that is where you would find him. He will truly be missed by many friends and family who loved him dearly.
Along with his parents, his wife of 62 years, Lynette H. Williams; two sisters, Gertie W. Baird and Minnie W. Acree; and four brothers, Wesley, Ralph, Norwood, and Berkley Williams, preceded him in death.
He is survived by his brother-in-law, Dr. Cleveland Hawkins and his wife, Doris, of Sunbury, and a number of nieces and nephews.
Askew Funeral & Cremation Services in Roanoke Rapids is handling the arrangements, where the family will receive friends on Tuesday, December 1, from 7:00 to 8:30 p.m. and other times at 12 Simmons Street, Roanoke Rapids, NC.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday, December 2, at 2:00 p.m. in the funeral home chapel with Rev. Randy Martin officiating. Interment will follow at Cedarwood Cemetery in Roanoke Rapids.
The flag in front of the funeral home flies at half-staff in honor of Mr. Williams’ service to his country.
